COOU MANAGEMENT ENGAGES PARENTS, CALLS FOR STRONGER PARTNERSHIP FOR STUDENTS' CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

Yesterday, June 9, 2026, The University Management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, received parents and guardians at the Vice Chancellor's Conference Room in a strategic engagement aimed at strengthening collaboration between the University and parents in the holistic development of students.

Speaking on the purpose of the meeting, The Vice Chancellor expressed heartfelt appreciation to the parents for honouring the University's invitation despite their numerous personal and professional commitments. According to her, their presence demonstrated commitment to the welfare, academic progress and moral upbringing of their children and wards.

She equally noted that this was the first formal engagement between her administration and parents since assuming office as Vice Chancellor. She further acknowledged the responsiveness of the Parents to reforms that promote collective growth and development, describing the turnout as a reflection of the value parents place on education, the future of their children and on the University

She emphasized that raising children has never been an easy task, especially in an increasingly complex and dynamic society. However, she maintained that the challenges associated with parenting should never serve as an excuse for neglecting the proper guidance and monitoring of young people.

The Vice Chancellor observed that when the attitudes, values and behaviours of students are left unchecked, they may gradually drift away from the ideals expected of responsible members of society. She therefore maintained the need for a strong and enduring partnership between parents and the University to ensure that students are guided appropriately and equipped to realize their full potential.

While commending parents for their sacrifices and dedication, Prof. Omenugha urged them to remain vigilant and actively involved in the lives of their children and wards. She further encouraged them to ensure that the resolutions and discussions arising from the main meeting at the ETF Auditorium translate into practical actions rather than remaining mere words while also reaffirming the University's commitment to fostering a conducive environment that promotes character formation.

More details will emerge soon.
