COURTESY VISIT: NUC RESOURCE VERIFICATION TEAM FOR THE AWARD OF DOCTOR OF PHARMACY (PHARM.D) IN COOU FELICITATES WITH VC

The National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Verification Team for the Award of Doctor of Pharmacy on Wednesday, 11th February 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, FNIPR, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room. The meeting formed part of the ongoing resource verification exercise for the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Present at the meeting were the three Deputy Vice Chancellors: Prof. Anselm Nweke(DVC Adminstration and Environmental Sustainability), Prof. Obiora Ejiofor (DVC Academics), and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Theophine Akunne.

Speaking during the visit, the NUC representative, Mustapha Audu, commended the university’s anthem, describing it as one of the best he has heard. Introducing the delegation, the Head of Team, Assoc. Prof. Abubakar Malidi, expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded them, particularly acknowledging Prof. Sylvia Okonkwo(DVC Uli Campus and Development Affairs), whom he described as a dependable ally. He stated that the team was pleased to be in COOU and noted that the accreditation exercise included verification processes and assessment of the proposed Pharm. D programme.

Assoc. Prof. Malidi observed that the university’s successful graduation of four sets of pharmacists and the presence of a teaching hospital position the institution strongly for the new programme. He also highlighted Anambra State’s growing pharmaceutical industry as an added advantage. While affirming that the Faculty met required standards, he appealed for improvements in areas such as enhanced office spaces, especially for professorial staff as well as increased staffing in some departments. Issues of welfare, accommodation, appointments, and promotions were also discussed during interactions with staff.

In her response, Prof. Kate Omenugha warmly welcomed the delegation to the now university and of the future. She expressed satisfaction that the feedback received was largely positive and commended the Dean of Pharmacy for his dedication and hard work. The Vice-Chancellor described Pharmacy as “the love of my life” and conveyed her excitement over the introduction of the Pharm. B programme.

Addressing the concerns raised, the Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to staff welfare and institutional advancement, anchored on her 3Vs trajectory—Values, Viability, and Visibility. She assured the team that necessary steps would be taken to address identified gaps. The visit concluded with the presentation of university gifts to the NUC delegation and group photographs.
