JOY ERUPTS IN COOU AS GOVERNOR SOLUDO APPROVES FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF ASUU/FG AGREEMENT

An atmosphere of excitement and jubilation has swept through the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) community following the approval by the Governor of Anambra State and Visitor to the University, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, for the 100% implementation of the Federal Government–Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) agreement for university staff.

The announcement, made on Thursday, October 8, 2026, has been greeted with widespread joy among members of the university community, who describe the approval as a welcome development and a significant boost to staff welfare. For many, the decision represents more than an improvement in working conditions; it is a reassuring demonstration that their concerns have been heard and their welfare given due consideration.

The excitement reflects the fulfilment of a promise made by Governor Soludo during the university’s convocation ceremony on April 25, 2026, when he pledged to look into staff welfare, including a review of the salary structure. Following the commitment, the Governor mandated the University Governing Council to examine the matter, paving the way for the latest development.

As news of the approval spread across the university, members of the COOU community expressed gratitude to the Governor for responding to their pleas and keeping faith with his promise. The approval has generated renewed optimism among staff, many of whom see the decision as a strong statement of the administration’s commitment to their well-being and the continued progress of the institution.

The development has also reinforced confidence in the importance of responsive leadership, with members of the university community acknowledging the significance of a government that listens to the concerns of its workforce and takes concrete steps towards addressing them. They expressed hope that the decision would further strengthen staff morale, promote industrial harmony and enhance the university’s capacity to deliver on its academic and administrative mandate.

In a collective expression of appreciation, the COOU community extends its heartfelt gratitude to Governor Soludo for listening to the concerns of staff, honouring his commitment and approving the full implementation of the agreement. For the university community, the message is clear: thank you, Mr Governor, for keeping your word, responding to our pleas and demonstrating through action that staff welfare matters.
