SIR CHIKWENDU UKAOBASI UDENSI OPENS FOUNDER’S DAY CEREMONY, PLEDGES BUILDING FOR CENTRE FOR ETHICS

The Chief Executive Officer of Sheiks & Bishop Ltd. and Chairman of the Founder’s Day / 4th Odumegwu Ojukwu Memorial Lecture, Sir Chikwendu Ukaobasi Udensi, earlier today, Wednesday, 22nd April 2026, delivered a stirring opening address that resonated strongly across the University community.

In his remarks, Sir Udensi stressed that the responsibility of academic staff extends far beyond the transmission of knowledge. He noted that lecturers are, above all, custodians of values and shapers of character, entrusted with the critical duty of instilling ethical consciousness in students. According to him, the true worth of education lies not only in intellectual attainment but in the character it produces; character which the University itself affirms in the certificates it awards.

He cautioned that knowledge, when divorced from ethics, can become a dangerous tool, producing individuals who are intellectually equipped yet morally unanchored. This, he maintained, highlights the urgent need to prioritize ethical formation within the academic environment.

Speaking further, Sir Udensi revealed his longstanding commitment to ethical values, describing them as a guiding force in both his personal and professional life. In demonstration of this commitment, he announced his decision to support the University’s Centre for Ethics through the construction of a dedicated building. The proposed structure is set to house a standard library, administrative offices, and the office of the Director, among other essential facilities.

The University community has received this gesture with deep appreciation, recognizing it as a significant contribution that will strengthen the institutional framework for ethical development.
